Four universities from four German federal states join hands to transform the universities into regional innovation hubs for sustainable development. The overall objective of the project WaNdel!4 is that the higher education institutions will operate more sustainably in the long term, teach sustainably, open up to other social systems and have an impact on them in the sense of a Whole Institution Approach.

In the course of the project, a sustainable transformation on the topics of sustainable operation, climate protection and adaptation, and sufficiency of use concepts will be developed and tested. Several real experiments, which will be implemented in real laboratories, will contribute to the transformation and to the initiation of social learning processes.

The partnering universities differ greatly in terms of subject focus, size (number of students/employees), regional economic strength and location (urban/rural), and thus exemplify the diversity of the German university landscape. In this constellation, the transformation towards increased sustainability can be conceived and tested under different conditions. The jointly gained experiences can be applied and serve as a blueprint for other higher education institutions.

Wandel!4 Partners of HNEE are:
Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt
Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft Berlin
Hochschule Mittweida University of Applied Sciences

HNEE will contribute to two work packages: In work package one, HNEE will deliver a thermal emission analysis of the four campi. For work package four, it will conduct an analysis of measurement methods for sustainability and resilience an organisational level. The project involves not only students and university staff, but also citizens and various practice partners in its work.

The project run from 2023 to 2025 and is funded within the framework of the Strategy for Research for Sustainability (FONA) of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
