The BMBF project WaNdel!4” applies a “Whole Institution Approach” (WIA), aiming at a sustainable transformation in operations, climate protection and adaptation, and sufficiency. In the spirit of a Whole Institution Approach (WIA), a Work Package 3 conducted a stakeholder workshop in Eberswalde. The workshop on 7th September connected stakeholder from the university HNEE and the city pf Eberswalde to exchange ideas and expectations of the project.

The WaNdel!4 team introduced a tool developed at HNEE for the regional presentation of the Land Surface Temperature (LST) or land surface temperature. With the help of this LST, for example, heat hot spots (areas with significantly higher LST temperatures than the surrounding surfaces) can be identified. To complement the tool, drones equipped with a thermal camera can be for high-resolution analysis. The combination of satellite image analysis and drone promises to provide accurate analysis of the WaNdel!4 project’s campus sites and enriches the project with more accurate and timely data. The data collected will support the universities in climate-adaptive campus design and help them understand the need for climate adaptation measures.

The discussion at the workshop highlighted the strong interest in sustainability topics of all stakeholders and underlined diverse expectations of the projects ranging from further exchange of experience on neighbourhood solutions (energy, heat, waste, recycling, circular economy), consideration of the needs of students, cooperation on students’ theses, new and practical tools for spatial management to the development of a climate resilience concept or climate adaptation concept for the participating universities.

The WaNdel!4 team took note of the different expectations. In the course of the project, further exchange and several stakeholder workshops are to take place where concrete projects at HNEE can be jointly elaborated.
