Build4 People Work package 4 experts, Jan-Peter Mund and Gulam Mohiuddin, applaud students at the Royal University of Agriculture in Phnom Penh for their recent research efforts presented at a B4P Science Workshop – on 29th September 2023.
The students at RUA’s Faculty of Land Management analysed the effects of urban infrastructure – by modelling streets, building and green spaces of Borey Penh Houth Boeng Snor. With a 3D model of the neighbourhood, the students captured the complexity and dynamics of the urban neighbourhood in digital form. The 3D model enabled the students to explore different scenarios for urban development.

The students wanted to understand how the land surface temperature is affected by building and if urban green infrastructure provides a cooling effect in terms of land surface temperature. The analysis showed the importance of considering planting trees, green spaces, parks and installing heat shields to reduce heat and improve quality of life in the city. Further the students analysed wind flow. The comprehensive understanding of wind flow, pattern, direction, speed, and velocity allows to optimise design and planning of urban environments. For more details see the posters below.
The Faculty of Land Management is counterpart to the B4P work package 4 on Urban Green Infrastructure. The Build4people project is funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research under the priority Sustainable Develoment in Urban region -SURE .
