24th June: It4forest applauds Luis Miranda for holding a keynote at the Joint CIGR–EurAgEng World Congress 2026 in Turino. Luis’s talk reflected on the apparent tensions between the rapid evolution of Artificial Intelligence and the grounded reality of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering. The assumption that historical data remains reliable is unsustainable in a changing climate.
As climate stress destabilizes traditional agricultural datasets, we face a fundamental choice: rely on abstract algorithms or return to physical verification. His presentation reflects on the polarized landscape of modern precision agriculture, contrasting the
high-speed development of AI with the slow and complex reality of field measurements. Miranda argued that the future of precision agriculture does not lie in replacing human expertise, but in the synthesis of hands-on coding and rigorous ground truthing.
Biosystems Engineering emerges as an essential discipline to bridge digital abstraction and biological reality, ensuring that AI digital models remain anchored in biological reality.

The congress is jointly organised by the International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR) and the European Society of Agricultural Engineers (EurAgEng). The CIGR – EurAgEng 2026 Conference covered a broad range of scientific and engineering topics addressing current and emerging challenges in agricultural and biosystems engineering. The conference gathered esearchers, early career researchers/scientists and experts from the fields of engineering, agricultural and environmental sciences and related practical fields. The congress offered a platform for professional exchange, discussion of research approaches and networking within the scientific community.
